The Meat and Potatoes
Walk for Autism Research
The last leg of my insanely grueling schedule was the Walk for Austim Research at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne. I was amazed to see how many people turned out for the event. The email said there would be 1500 people, but I’d guess it was more like 3-4 times that amount. I’m getting better about bringing my camera and I snapped a few pictures.
I can’t express how much I appreciate the donations everyone provided. I was able to raise over $2000, which not only helped me hit my goal, but also did the same for Gloria Floyd Elementary’s (our team) as well. This also put the team in the running for the largest team donation of the event which I really hope we take! The principal of the school and a few other team members thanked me personally for my help, which meant a great deal to me. This is my first step into volunteer/charity work and I must say it was far more rewarding than I had anticipated. I’m looking forward to the next event and I hope I can find a way to work closer with the children so I can learn about the disorder first-hand.
So that brings this leg of my busy winter schedule to a close. Next stop, SXSW!
