The Meat and Potatoes
The iPhone Debate
For the record, here is my response to the endless iPhone versus other “smartphones” debate…
If you compare the iPhone to another “smartphone” on the basis of quantity of features, the other phone will probably win in most cases. However, if you compare the them on the basis of the execution of those features (even if they are fewer in number), the iPhone will win every time.
I didn’t buy the iPhone for the number of features it has. I bought it because using a cellphone has always been a horrible experience, and the Apple changed that. No one else has even come close.
You can’t truly appreciate (or judge) the iPhone until you actually use it. The beauty of the device is in the countless details and thought put into every aspect of it. Not only did Apple fix the obvious annoyances, but they fixed many issues that I barely even acknowledge anymore as they’ve simply become accepted evils of using a cellphone.
Apple did not fall into the trap of other cellphone manufacturers and simply try to fix (without luck) a foundation that was fundamentally broken. They redefined the foundation.
And with some luck they’ll support Flash soon …
@mike - The iPhone is the single greatest purchase I’ve made this year.
@alex - Flash is overrated. More web apps should be build in a similar manner to Scrapblog. Now there’s a great site. What? That uses flash? Really? Oh. Um.
Hopefully they’ll support flash soon.
